Initial results obtained from wind-assisted propulsion device development project show promising potential
Wind-Assisted Propulsion System Development, Analyses and Verification Project funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (grant number: 3192316) has been initiated by HIDROTEKNIK in January 2020.
The projects aims at revisiting the turbo-sail concept, with utilization of modern computational tools and improving its efficiency in order to obtain a wind-assist system with lesser moving parts and lesser energy consumption whilst not compromising from potential energy saving benefit.
Initial computational results obtained from the study indicate that the turbo-sail concept may provide a competitive solution to the wind-assisted propulsion device market. Lift coefficients at the order of currently available commercial technologies may be achieved by less moving parts and energy.
The rest of the project will focus on verifying the results and increasing the TRL of the design aiming at commercialization.
